Hecate was the ancient Greek goddess capable of both good and evil. She was associated with witchcraft, magic, the Moon, doorways and creatures of the night like hell hounds and ghosts!

She was often depicted carrying a torch to remind of her connection with the night. In sculpture, she has three faces for her role as the goddess of boundaries and the guardian of crossroads.

In this improvisation, I attempt to evoke the mystery & sinister sorcery of Hecate, using once again, my personally modified chromatic variation of the ancient musical Dorian mode whose mystical quality is further enhanced by the distinctively intense, focused intervals of just intonation.

I also demonstrate some more exotic possibilities of my carved goats horn plectrum, other than merely plucking the strings of my lyre. I attempt to evoke a more mystical feeling, by the use of spooky-sounding, unusual playing techniques, which include using the edge of my carved goats horn plectrum as a slide on the strings to create an eerie portamento, in addition to passages which feature hitting the strings with the plectrum whilst stopping specific strings with my left hand in order to create sinister, percussive harmonies.
