In ancient Greek mythology, Satyrs were rustic fertility spirits of the countryside and wilds. They consorted with the Nymphai (Nymphs) and were companions of the gods Dionysos, Hermes, Hephaistos, Pan, Rhea-Kybele and Gaia.

This piece features the distinctively warm and contented qualities of the ancient Greek Hypophrygian Mode - the equivalent intervals as G-G on the white notes of the piano (misnamed the 'Mixolydian' Mode by scholars during the Middle Ages.

This piece hopefully demonstrates the wilder, almost orgiastic sounds the recreated tortoise shell lyre is capable of, which when using a combination of strummed drones by blocking specific strings with the left hand, whilst opening specific blocked strings with the required left hand fingers to create a strummed melodic line - rather like the effect of hearing some sort of wild, strummed hurdy gurdy!
