The ancient Greek god, Apollo is are closely associated in ancient Greece, with the kithara – the much venerated large wooden lyre only performed by the professional elite musicians of classical antiquity, and Apollo in his role as the god of music, who is often depicted playing the instrument. The kithara was associated with Apollo's divine power and the ideal of harmony, both in music and in the state.

My ancient Greek kithara featured in this track was recreated in modern Greece by Luthieros.

The piece, a spontaneous improvisation in the intense and manly ancient Greek Dorian Mode, hopefully demonstrates the rich, deep timbre of the instrument, with a wide range of playing techniques, including blocking specific strings with the left hand and strumming the open strings with a plectrum in the right hand, as depicted in countless illustrations from antiquity of the kithara being performed.

Back in 2022 and 2023 , I also had the honour of having a wide selection of my ancient Greek-themed music also associated directly with Apollo - when the world-famous American artist, Jeff Koons, featured my music as the soundscape to the exhibitions of his 2019 sculpture, "Apollo Kithara", first in 2022 in the DESTE Project Space on the Greek island of Hydra and the following year, when the sculpture was displayed in the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt as part of the exhibition, “Engine Room of the Gods: How Our Future Was Invented”:

This piece, a vigorous spontaneous improvisation in the ancient Greek Dorian Mode, aims to demonstrate the deep, dramatic and powerful tone the original kithara of classical Greece once must have had.
