Circe was the ancient Greek goddess of sorcery (pharmakeia) who was skilled in the magic of transmutation, illusion, and necromancy. She lived on the mythical island of Aiaia (Aeaea) with her nymph companions.
When Odysseus came to her island, she transformed his men into beasts but, with the help of the god Hermes, he overcame her and forced her to end the spell.

In attempting to evoke through music, the sinister, magical powers of Circe, I feature in the piece, my own variation of an exotic Middle Eastern mode and add further mystery, by the use of passages of spooky sounding playing techniques, which include the use of eerie harmonics and using the side of my carved goats horn plectrum like the hammer of a hammered dulcimer, to hit the strings instead of pluck or strum them!
